I must admit when I heard that they were remaking "Silent Night Deadly Night" I wasn't too thrilled to be honest, okay there have been some good ones, but there's also been a lot of bad ones. I was a fan of the original even though it was cheesy but I still loved it. I haven't seen a movie with a killer Santa for a while so it was nice to see that they started making them again, and what a good movie this was, this kept me hooked all the way through from beginning to end. This is actually more of a loose remake, and doesn't follow the original that closely but I did like the new spin on the story focusing on a small town police department trying to figure out who this killer Santa is while he goes from door to door slaughtering victims left right and centre, really notching up the gore factor making it more slick and wonderfully over the top, which is a good thing. The acting also makes this movie works, Jamie King gives a well rounded performance as the Deputy trying to track down the killer Santa; she did well and made her performance believable and human and further cementing her Scream Queen of the remakes following brilliant performances in both (My Bloody Valentine 3D and Mother's Day), she's always a pleasure to watch. Malcolm McDowell is always fun to watch chewing his way through the scenery as always playing the outrageous and unlikeable character. Ellen Wong is also a nice addition and gives a sharp and entertaining performance as the secretary. Andrew Cecon also gives a stand out performance as Deputy Giles with his witty dialogue and Courtney Jane White was simply stunning as the slutty character with no morals or tact. "Silent Night" is definitely more polished than its original version and there are a few small flaws like I just didn't feel the Christmasy tone and it's a little uneven and predictable and the revelation of the killer was a bit of a cop out, but none of those small things spoiled the movie and I loved the nods to the original which nicely balances the brutal nature of this movie. All in all "Silent Night" is a definite must see and on par with the original in terms of quality and quantity.
